SHARING AND TRANSFER OF INFORMATION

We may share information with service providers (hosting, payment processing, analytics tools, SMS services) to support the Platform’s services.

These providers receive only the information necessary to perform their functions and are required to maintain the confidentiality and security of the information.

Information may be transferred outside your province or outside Canada. In such cases, we take reasonable measures to ensure an adequate level of protection in accordance with applicable laws.

PAYMENT PROCESSING (STRIPE CONNECT STANDARD) AND FRAUD PREVENTION (STRIPE RADAR)

The Platform uses Stripe (including Stripe Connect – Standard accounts) to facilitate payment processing between guests and owners.

Important: when you make a payment for a reservation, the payment is processed by Stripe and is part of the contractual relationship between the guest and the owner (or their authorized representative). The Platform acts as a technology intermediary to enable the connection and facilitate payment (including via Stripe Connect), and it does not hold full payment card information and does not perform payment processing itself as a financial institution.

Under Stripe Connect Standard, owners may be redirected to Stripe to create or manage their Stripe account. Stripe then collects and processes certain information directly as a payment services provider (and, depending on the context, as a controller for certain activities).

Under the Stripe Connect Standard model, Stripe may act as a controller for certain operations related to the management of owners’ payment accounts, in accordance with its own terms and policies.

In this context, Stripe may also collect from owners certain information required for identity verification, regulatory compliance, and fraud prevention (e.g., KYC/AML requirements), in accordance with its obligations and policies.

When you make a payment or a reservation, certain information necessary to process the transaction may be shared with Stripe, including:

  • Name
  • Email address
  • Billing information
  • Transaction details (amount, currency, date, status)
  • IP address and technical data associated with the transaction

Full payment card information is not stored or processed by ChaletsAuQuebec.com. It is transmitted securely directly to Stripe in accordance with applicable security standards, including PCI-DSS.

Fraud prevention (Stripe Radar)

To protect the Platform, users, and owners, we may use fraud detection and prevention features offered by Stripe, including Stripe Radar.

For this purpose, Stripe may collect and analyze certain information related to the transaction and payment context, which may include, as applicable:

  • IP address
  • Device and browser data (e.g., device type, operating system, language, time zone, technical identifiers)
  • Session and payment behavior data (e.g., attempts, risk signals)
  • Transaction history and characteristics (e.g., amount, frequency, approximate country/region)

This information is used to:

  • Detect and prevent fraud, unauthorized payments, and misuse of the Platform
  • Assess the risk level of a transaction and, where applicable, require additional verification
  • Maintain the integrity and security of payments

Depending on the outcome of these checks, a transaction may be declined, placed on hold, or require additional validation.

Stripe may process or store personal information outside your province or outside Canada, including in the United States or other jurisdictions where Stripe or its subcontractors operate. In such cases, the information may be subject to applicable local laws.

We take reasonable measures to ensure that our service providers offer a level of protection comparable to that required under applicable Canadian laws.

Use of payment services is also subject to Stripe’s terms of service and policies, which may apply directly to owners and, in some cases, to users making a payment.

For more information about Stripe’s privacy practices, please consult its privacy policy: https://stripe.com/privacy.

RETENTION

Information is retained only for as long as necessary to fulfill the identified purposes, unless a longer retention period is required by law.

Information is then securely destroyed or anonymized.

SECURITY

We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect personal information.

COOKIES

Some cookies are essential to the operation of the Platform, including those necessary for site functionality and security, and cannot be disabled.

Non-essential cookies (for example, those related to audience measurement) can be managed through our cookie management tool.

GOOGLE ANALYTICS (GA4)

Subject to your consent where required, the Platform may use Google Analytics 4 (GA4), a web analytics service provided by Google, to measure audience, understand site usage, and improve our services.

When Google Analytics is enabled, certain information may be collected or generated during your browsing, including:

  • Pages viewed and interactions (e.g., clicks, navigation, time spent)
  • Technical information (e.g., browser type, device, resolution)
  • Identifiers and cookies used for analytics purposes (e.g., _ga)
  • IP address (processed in accordance with applicable settings and technical measures)

Google may process information outside Canada. In such cases, the information may be subject to applicable local laws.

You may accept or refuse the use of Google Analytics at any time through our cookie preference tool. If you refuse, Google Analytics scripts will not run and related cookies will not be set (subject to technical limitations and essential cookies).

For more information about Google’s practices: https://policies.google.com/privacy.

USE OF OPENSTREETMAP

The Platform uses OpenStreetMap to display maps. Certain technical data (including IP address) may be transmitted to OpenStreetMap servers.

This service is not used for profiling or advertising purposes.

PRIVACY INCIDENTS

In the event of a privacy incident that presents a real risk of significant harm, we will take the steps required by law, including notifying affected individuals and the relevant authorities when necessary.

YOUR RIGHTS

Depending on your province or territory of residence, you may have the right to:

  • Access your personal information
  • Request correction of your personal information
  • Withdraw your consent (where applicable)
  • Request deletion of your personal information where permitted by law
  • File a complaint with the competent authority

You may file a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

For Ontario residents, complaints regarding the handling of personal information in the private sector may be addressed to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, in accordance with PIPEDA.

CHANGES

We may amend this Policy to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements.

Continued use of the Platform constitutes acceptance of such changes.
